My Calypso Music

1997
Performing at Island Center on MLK's birthday

I started writing poems at an early age. I can't remember wanting to be a singer, but I became one when I sang my first two calypsoes. I had written the lyrics for two songs entitled "Fiery and hot", and "Susan and Martha" (use the married men). I gave the songs to the singer of a local band. He promised to use them, but he never did. I went to Ronald Russell's studio, recorded the two songs and participated in the local calypso competition. That was in 1986. Susan and Martha (use the married men) was a hit, a very much requested song.

Since I loved and enjoyed being on stage, and with the help of a very talented songwriter, Earl Wynter, I continued to sing and participate in the competitions. I wrote the lyrics for some of my earlier tunes such as "Dem Island Men", "No Drugs", and "Eunice". Earl wrote "Supervisor", "Oliver", "One Family", "Change your world, girl", "Toy Boy", and "Trouble".

I no longer sing calypsoes nor participate in the competitions, but it was fun while it lasted. I have my records and cassettes, and also my memories. I'm still recognized and acknowledged by my fans.
