| Summary: |
A CARIBBEAN STORY OF LOVE, LUST AND LIES... a story about physical and sexual abuse of children by their parents.
The two main characters are Curtis Carlson and Ken Winston.
Curtis was born in a small village on the island of Dominica. Always a loner, Curtis had no friends and grew up with hatred in his heart for mankind. As a child, Curtis was physically and sexually abused by his father while his mother stood by helplessly. Curtis hated his parents, and at the tender age of ten, he killed his father. After receiving his School Leaving Certificate, Curtis relocated to Roseau, the capital of Dominica, where he met Aileen, who tricked him into marrying her by getting pregnant. Curtis despised Aileen and refused to engage in further sexual relations with her. Instead, he found sexual gratification by molesting their daughter, Pearl, thereby continuing the cycle of child abuse.
When Pearl reached dating age, Curtis did everything in his power, even committing murder, to thwart the attention of her suitors. Pearl suffered in silence until she met Antiguan born Ken Winsotn when she and her father relocated to St. Croix.
The novel's characters display a variety of emotions, including humor, love, greed, lust and anger. The story ends with a dramatic climax when Pearl discovers her father's atrocities and her fury is unleashed.

| Summary: |
A CARIBBEAN STORY OF HURT, HORROR, AND HEALING... 26 year-old Pearl Carlson is released from prison on the island of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, after killing her abusive father, Curtis Carlson. One condition of her release is that she returns to Dominica, the island of her birth, and participates in a psychiatric counseling program. Penniless, and in a state of shock, Pearl travels to Dominica with her grandmother, Doris Boyd. Pearl endures the ridicule, scorn and insults of her neighbors and also becomes the victim of a stalker who tries to rape her. Tormented with feelings of guilt, shame and fear, Pearl is not ready to disclose the deep, dark secrets that are locked inside, to her psychiatrist, Dr. Timothy Williams. After months of therapy, and the loving care and support of her family, Pearl finally opens up to the doctor and reveals the horror that had been her life for as long as she could remember. Beginning to experience a normal existence, she comes face to face with Nigel Bray, the man whose life and birthright her father stole, and whose grandfather he killed. The encounter with Nigel Bray and his son threatens her recovery and changes her life forever.
